This is an absolute gem! Right next to the ski rentals, this bohemian lodge was such a treat. It has two onsens and the home cooked meals are chef’s kiss! The music is the perfect mix, also. I look forward to staying here again.

The lodge run by Masa and his family is immaculate - every part of it has been designed with intention. Dinner and breakfast service was also excellent, some of the best food we've had in Japan. Walking distance from the Okushiga Kogen lifts. Would definitely return!

This was the most comfortable ski lodge I’ve stayed at in Japan. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, making the entire experience effortless. From the incredibly convenient location—just a 3–4 minute walk to the ski lifts and the bus to Nagano—to the refreshments in the living room, high-quality toiletries, and well-appointed room fittings, everything exceeded expectations. Ski rentals can also be conveniently arranged at the Fenix Hotel on the way to the lifts. The lodge is also wonderfully warm, which made coming back from the slopes especially enjoyable.
We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to return!

This is the most comfortable and cozy lodge I’ve ever stayed in. My wife and I really love this place and would return in a heartbeat, and hope to do so someday soon.
Highly recommend to go for the dinner which you can feel is cooked with love, the food is extremely tasty and healthy.
If you are looking for a perfect place to stay in Shiga Kogen, look no further.
Thanks Masa-san and Maki-san for taking such good care of us during our stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Yama-no-Manimani.
Masa-san is a wonderful cook, and the drying room, bedrooms, baths, and amenities were all great.
The lodge has very easy access to the slopes.

We stayed at Mani Mani for 2 weeks and we had an enjoyable time there. The lodge is very clean, Masa San is exceptionally helpful and the food prepared on nights where you can choose to have dinner is delicious. The lodge has a shared guest space with kitchenette, where you can hang out and prepare light meals or have a drink. This was very enjoyed by us as the rooms are not large.
The rooms do not have an attached bathroom, but there is a wonderful and clean guest onsen / bathhouse for use which is private. As we traveled with 2 kids, we used it to shower the whole family at the same time
My only 2 areas of feedback for MasaSan are 1) in room onsen baskets could be useful for guests to transport our things up and down! 2) it would be good to have a slightly larger collection of food in house for guests to whip up on kitchen closure days!

My partner and I stayed here as our last stop on our Snowboarding holiday around the Nagano area.
Lodge Yama No Manimani is easily the best lodge we have stayed at in Japan. Masa is an amazing host, the breakfast and dinners were incredible and the lodge itself along with the rooms are so cosy and relaxing. I only wish we could have stayed for much much longer!

We had an amazing stay at Manimani! Masa-san is the ultimate host, and the lodge has unique and welcoming atmosphere with many thoughtful touches. Particularly noteworthy are the spectacular multi-course dinners which are Michelin-level and feature local ingredients in inventive combinations and suggested wine and sake pairings. Special highlights were the amazake shabu-shabu and homemade apple compote. The lodge provides an ideal base for exploring the Shiga Kogen ski area, and the ski rental in the nearby Hotel Grand Phenix is conveniently located.

What a beautiful and welcoming experience. The hosts were so accommodating and the cuisine was incredible. The rooms, lounge and dining areas were comfortable and very clean. The music collection was very cool and the lodge had a great vibe for the 6 days that we stayed and enjoyed the snow. Thank you! We will definitely be back.

Dear Masa-san,
It has been a week since I left your place and I am still thinking how extra-ordinary it was!! Everything was at its place, organised, clean and so well thought through. My room was very comfortable - love the floor heating! The diners you cooked were amazing, great food and a full 5 courses menu every night - it was absolutely incredible!! I enjoyed how welcoming you were, your advice and friendship. Thank you SO MUCH for this experience, I would do it again in heart-beat. Special mention for your hifi system and collection of vinyls (who would have thought you could find this at Okushiga :-)), the dry room (which warms your ski boots for the morning), and the private onsens - I thoroughly enjoyed those. Honestly, if I could give you 6 starts, I would. Your place is THE place to stay at Shiga-Kogen. I hope I will come back soon. Sayonara, Matt

Wow! What an amazing lodge! I am so glad we booked to stay here rather than one of the bigger hotels. Masa is such a wonderful host.
The rooms are perfect, comfortable, warm with everything you need including a fridge.
Communal kitchen, tv/lounge area with coffee machine & pods to use. We self catered for 2 nights easily.
The dinners in the lodge were delicious and the daily breakfast very satisfying.
The private Onsen bath - lifesaver! Absolute luxury every night.
Easy couple of minutes walk to the Okushiga lifts. A number of rental outlets also very close. Bus from Nagano comes right to Okushiga so very accessible.
And an awesome vinyl record collection to listen to!
We have found a gem in Shiga Kogen and will be back next year!
