We recently joined a SUP experience hosted by MOUNTAIN DISCOVERY, based at their beautiful boathouse on Lake Biwaike in Shiga Kogen—and it was an absolute highlight.
Yumoto-san, the founder, is incredibly welcoming and makes first-timers feel at ease. His instruction was clear, relaxed, and genuinely fun, so even complete beginners can get out on the water with confidence.
Gliding across the calm lake gave us a whole new perspective of Shiga Kogen. Looking up at the lush, untouched forest from the water was simply breathtaking. And if you visit in autumn? We’ve heard the fiery fall colors reflected on the lake are nothing short of spectacular.
